Plush bar and lounge glenside penn9/24/2023 ![]() Around 7-7:10, ONE of our dinners (Gnocchi) were delivered (out of 4). That was brought to the waitress' attention and resulted in some confusion that was resolved. On delivery, the drink that we had problems with before was now missing alcohol. The Plushrooms and the waffle fries were marvelous! We gave our dinner order around 6:50. On delivery, tonic was still in the drink. One of our party asked that his order of one of their signature adult beverages have seltzer replacing the tonic. Our foursome was seated within minutes (good). When we arrived, they could not find our reservation and required the manager to straighten things out. We had a confirmed 6pm reservation by email. We were there for an 8pm show at the Keswick. Unfortunately, our evening was painful for the wrong reasons. This is a difficult review to write (I would have given it 4 stars if not for the problems) - please read on. Per staff statements, they are still trying to pull the pieces together after the Bar Rescue. Obviously we won't be back and from other comments from other patrons. Why? Because it looks like this place is doomed. Quite Italian, huh? The poor wait staff looks apologetic and I feel for them. they offer only ONE, molten chocolate lava cake. Oh, if you want any dessert your choice is easy. The martini menu is gone, replaced with their "Signature Drinks". No craft beers offered to us and no suggestions for a good IPA. the waitress only offered her hand-written draft list. When asked for a beer selection list, such as you'd see in most bars. Now, only a full-sized serving, and inferior to Plush's - perhaps frozen and reheated? The Caesar salad was bland at best. They kept the Plush's chicken eggrolls which we usually order a 1/2 serving. The best part, however, is the food: The menu is pitifully absent of Italian, or varied selection. The walls are dark and with a black ceiling, it's uh. The mural looks like a 9th grade art project which got a grade of C. A huge mural on the wall resembling what someone thinks Italy looks like is what you get to view, along with a few TVs. ![]() The change to the decor is adolescent - the bar area is nicer, a bit more upscale, but the restaurant area is just. ![]() Tavern in Calabria? I guess if you serve paninis (like in Applebees) or dried-out meatballs that any beginning cook could do better with. The name magically changed to Osteria Calabria and should have been Osteria Calamity. What this place needed was a 'freshen up' of their look and a menu enhancement. South Street's Lickety Split is now Alleged Bar & Pizza with the upstairs transforming into 2nd State Lounge, while Plush in Glenside has been remade into Osteria Calabria.Plush was a place we would visit about once per month, usually for a Kez Theater show and it was never outstanding, but the food was decent, the orders taken correctly by a really nice staff, and the drinks were pretty good. Have a hunch of where the show might be shooting? Give us a shout on Facebook or Twitter. Rumors are running rampant on social media about what bars may be getting the Taffer touch, but real, solid intel has yet to emerge. You’ll recall Philly served as the backdrop for some of Bar Rescue’s most popular episodes with Taffer taking on the the very troubled Downey’s Irish Pub and now defunct Swanky Bubbles in the show’s first season. ![]() Presumably, what’s being shot here will air at some point during the show’s forthcoming season, which premieres on Sunday, October 5. We know this because, host Jon Taffer tweeted as much on Tuesday.Īll we can get out of Spike TV reps is confirmation that the show is indeed on location here, and will be rolling cameras and resuscitating ailing bars through Friday, September 12. Spike TV ’s Bar Rescue i s currently at work rescuing bars here in Philadelphia. ![]()
